In Barn for Review: LUMIN U2 Mini Digital Transport/Streamer - Twittering Machines

I’ve long admired the products from Lumin for their aesthetic appeal that speaks to my eyes and ears.

The brand spankin’ new Lumin U2 Mini Digital Transport/Streamer, or what some call a Network Player, connects to your network (Ethernet) and outputs a digital audio signal (via USB, Optical, Coaxial RCA, Coaxial BNC & AES/EBU) to your DAC. The U2 Mini is Roon Ready which is exactly how I plan to use it but users can also run with the U2 Mini’s native support for TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, AirPlay, or the free Lumin App.

The U2 Mini betters the Lumin U1 Mini with its completely new processing hardware and software that allows for upsampling and downsampling to every supported format up to DSD256/PCM348 to hit your DAC’s sweetspot. This increased processing capacity also allows for future updates while the U2 Mini retains the U1’s quad clocking system and 5 different digital outputs, with the USB output now supporting DSD up to DSD512. The U2 Mini also supports MQA decoding.

When in use, the font panel display shows track and artist information. The review unit sports the raw aluminum finish but black anodized aluminum is also available.

There’s obviously a lot more to talk about with a device like the Lumin U2 Mini which will happen in the review proper. Stay tuned!
