UK ISP TalkTalk Adds 90 Free HD Channels to Pay TV Service UPDATE - ISPreview UK

2022-10-01 04:40:42 By : Ms. Linda Yin

Budget broadband ISP TalkTalk has today announced that they’ve added over 90 “new” HD (High Definition) TV channels for “free” to their Netgem powered pay TV (IPTV) platform and its related “TV 4K Box” device, which means that customers should be able to access a total of up to 210 channels.

The service itself typically costs an additional £4 per month to take, and it initially launched earlier this year with access to around 80 TV channels and on-demand players through the Netgem TV interface (here). The platform also supports around 30 apps (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube – all in 4K).

However, today’s addition of over 90 new channels could help to make the service more attractive. The new channels include over 40 additional sports channels (e.g. USGA TV), as well as others like Bloomberg Television, Gusto TV, Qwest music channels, Fuel TV, Wu Tang, Wedo Movies, Cartoon TV and Kids Zone.

Sadly, TalkTalk has NOT provided a full channel list with their announcement, but that probably doesn’t matter too much since you’re unlikely to be familiar with most of them or to have the time to actually watch them all.

Susie Buckridge, Group Product Director of TalkTalk, said:

“At TalkTalk we strive to offer an industry leading customer experience at fantastic value for money as a result of our strategic partnerships with sector experts. It’s why we’re pleased to be able to give our 4K TV customers access to so many free new HD channels through our partnership with Netgem TV, offering entertainment for everyone no matter their viewing preference.”

The new channels have all been automatically added to TalkTalk’s 4K TV Box, so you can enjoy them right away. We suspect that other ISPs on the Netgem platform may also be able to benefit from this, either now or in the future.

Netgem has confirmed that other ISPs will also be able to benefit from the same expanded channel selection. The company has also provided us with a full list of the channels, although the image is a little grainy.

If Netgem could get a deal for Sky Sports Channels that would make the system far more promising.

Fixed the headline for you Mark: Massive dump of trash TV channels tipped onto the NetJunk heap.

Please someone tell me that Wu Tang is a channel dedicated to the Wu Tang Clan. That would be the most bizarre and amazing TV channel ever.

It’s not. If memory serves its a channel for proper old school kung-fu films

So where did they get the 90 from? Are these American TV channels? Or just regular freeview channels everyone gets anyway?

Probably from the bottom of the pile where nobody ever looks.

“90 Free HD Channels to Pay TV Service” … How is that free?

@Mark, netgem doesn’t actually support Netflix (which your article suggests)

It’s a notable exception, as netgem devices would otherwise be perfect for smartifying old ‘dumb’ TVs.

Netflix is very much supported via TalkTalk’s related TV service though.

Most of the channels available through Netgem TV are in fact Freeview channels – you need to plug your TV aerial into the box to be able to receive them.

The list above includes some regional channels that won’t be available to all viewers.

Premier Sports and FreeSports are on Netgem, but they’re not on TalkTalk’s Netgem box.

As for the other extra channels, which are on channel 855 and higher, many of these are on LG Channels and Samsung TV Plus.

In a nutshell, I can’t see the added value. You could just buy a Samsung or LG smart TV and get the same range of Freeview and FAST (IP) channels and apps, and save yourself the cost of TalkTalk TV.

Mike 80, You shour read this article after decidde:

“TalkTalk has announced the launch of 90 new TV channels which are all available at no extra cost. So how does this update compare to Sky and Virgin?”

Can anyone suggest a good (legal) way for me to watch UK TV in Cyprus without a giant 3m satellite dish? I don’t mind if it’s a grey area but i’m not interested in illegal methods. I’d like only UK freeview channels/news.

The correct, full list of all TalkTalk TV channels

– Table 1 contains Freeview channels. These require your box to be plugged into a TV aerial – Table 2 is the list of these 90+ channels mentioned in the press release yesterday – Table 3 is the list of channels available through the NOW (TV) app.

Importantly, it does not include all of the Netgem channels published in the update above, so it seems TalkTalk have a slightly bespoke arrangement with Netgem.

With Netgem UHD 4K box,

you can RECORD or pause live TV and then restart viewing or fast forward / rewind back to the point you paused the programme.

However, you cannot immediately rewind live TV to an earlier time.

But you need to insert a USB (minimum 32GB) and record a programme if you want the flexibility to watch and rewind to any point in the programme. Min 32GB USB storage required.

I’m Sky and Virgin are quaking in their boots, the channel selection is very poor.
