If you are looking for a gaming laptop this holiday, ASUS TUF Dash F15 will be an attractive choice because it offers basic performance and functions at a reasonable price.

It’s not difficult to find a laptop with full functionality and a matching price tag, or a laptop with too many corners to run the game smoothly. This ASUS machine seems to balance budget and performance well.

This is what you expect from its TUF nickname, which Asus has always used for its competitively priced but feature-rich motherboard series. Here, the TUF Dash F15 notebook computer impresses people with its full-service and concise approach.

Let's start with an out-of-the-box experience. The chassis itself doesn't have a more attractive appearance or exquisite finish on ASUS's high-end ROG series game consoles, but the matte finish does not look bad at all.

The low-key look and feel is actually in its favor-frankly, gamers should grow up from the old gorgeous design. Except for some fingerprint smudges, I want to say that TUF Dash F15 looks very practical and convenient.

What I also like is the 15.6-inch screen. It consists of a relatively slim frame, which makes the laptop look stylish. The main body itself is not too thick, and the thickness is just enough to meet the height of the Ethernet port or the USB port. In fact, the laptop is not as heavy as its 2 kg.

Still on the screen, this is an area that Asus has not cut. The 240Hz, 3ms display is very suitable for gaming, so there is no instant delay between when you see an enemy and shoot at him. I also like the good contrast and color vividness when watching videos on my laptop.

Under the hood, you will get a lot of hardware that should be able to handle today's games well. The model I have is Intel Core i7-11370H processor, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics chip and 1TB solid state drive (SSD).

In Singapore, ASUS sells a similar model equipped with a 512GB SSD at a reasonable price of S$2,598. Another cheaper model with a slower but still capable Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics chip and 512GB SSD is priced at S$1,798.

Since TUF Dash F15 has been launched for several months, I expect a new version with Intel’s latest 12th generation processor will be available in the near future. There may also be a series of new graphics options to choose from.

This time I did not run a detailed benchmark test because I had a quick hands-on operation, but the Nvidia RTX 3070 chip on the evaluation unit should be able to run the game at the full HD resolution of the screen without any problems.

At that resolution, 3A games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Far Cry 6 shouldn't be close to maximizing the existing performance. The rest of the hardware also looks up to date.

Here, I also refer to the cooling system, which can remain quiet to a large extent and keep the case relatively cool even when the laptop is pushed hard. I don't like to call a game console a laptop unless it is safe to put it on my lap-here, the TUF Dash F15 passed the test.

In terms of audio, the laptop performed pretty well. Clear and full, when you don’t want to plug in headphones, the sound effect produced by the laptop is good enough. It is great to see that Asustek has not cut this department either.

Another positive factor you will find is the full port lineup on both sides of the machine. You will get an Ethernet port to plug into your home network for a low-latency link.

In addition, three full-size USB ports allow you to connect peripherals such as gaming mice, USB headsets, or flash drives. If you prefer analog audio, there is also a headphone jack.

To connect monitors and other devices, a full-size HDMI port and USB-C (Thunderbolt) connector make everything simple. In other words, you can leave without adding a port extender, thus keeping your desktop tidy.

I think ASUS can improve the keyboard a little bit. The touch is great, but you want the buttons to be slightly larger or wider. Asus can take advantage of the larger space brought by the 15-inch laptop case by widening the keyboard.

Another thing to note is the lack of a webcam. Yes, this is a gaming laptop, so users are likely to end up buying their own laptops. Nevertheless, the built-in one can help you quickly get up and running the Zoom call instead of fiddling with other gadgets.

All in all, if you are looking for a powerful but overpriced or gorgeous gaming laptop, ASUS TUF Dash F15 is still a good choice. It's nice to see a low-key game console these days.

If you can buy an Asus laptop at a discounted price, as this model has been launched since the middle of this year, it will be a gift to please gamers during the holidays.
