OWC announced the ministack STX, which they claim is the world's first Thunderbolt certified Thunderbolt 4 storage solution.

OWC has had miniStack since 2005, and it has always been a good companion for Mac mini. The new miniStack STX now has storage and Thunderbolt Xpansion functions.

The new miniStack STX is equipped with a universal SATA HDD/SSD bay and NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD slot, allowing you to expand the storage capacity of the mini. Three Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports allow you to connect to a large number of Thunderbolt, USB and future USB4 drives, monitors, A/V mixers, cameras and tablets; as well as desktop accessories such as keyboards, card readers or mice.

Even though the miniStack STX has the same design and appearance as the Mac Mini, you can still use it with MacBooks, PC laptops and desktops, iPads and Chromebooks.

The universal SATA drive bay can accommodate hard drives or SSDs. When you need to support low-latency instant access operations, the NVMe M.2 SSD slot can be connected to the computer processor through PCIe using a more direct path, thereby realizing the speed potential of modern flash drive technology.

With multiple drive configurations, you can obtain actual data transfer speeds of up to 770MB/s. You can use the SATA drive for Time Machine or file history backup when the NVMe drive is closed. miniStack STX is very suitable for multi-stream compressed 4K video editing, photography, audio, virtual machine and daily data tasks.

The miniStack STX starts at $299 and can be ordered now.
